Paint Chipping in Bathroom? (DIY)
Trouble with paint cracking or chipping in your bathroom? The
most common areas this happens is above your tub or shower. This is a result of
continuous moisture building up and drying on your paint surface. The first step
is to make sure your bathroom has an exhaust fan installed close to your shower.
I would recommend at maximum 3 ft. away from your shower or tub. The exhaust fan
is designed to remove moisture and your ungodly fumes from the room. However it
is recommended that you leave the exhaust fan on approx. 20 min after your
shower. Most people will turn it off as soon as they leave the bathroom. If you
like those long hot showers where your bathroom looks like a sauna when you’re
done, then I would recommend an exhaust fan with a higher CFM. A cheap paint
will crack a lot quicker. I would never suggest using a cheap paint. Especially
in the bathroom. A higher quality paint will last you a few more years, but if
you constantly make those sauna like conditions in your bathroom, I would suggest a good outdoor paint. A outdoor latex paint is designed for the outdoor elements. Be sure to use a good mask when using outdoor paint indoors and try to use fans to direct the fumes outdoors.
